Transferring an existing domain involves switching the registrar company that handles the domain name registration service, so after the transfer itself, you will have to manage things like renewal payments or DNS modifications through the new registrar company. The transfer process is standard with most universal and country-specific TLD extensions. Some country-code extensions are more specific and entail different steps, but in the general case transferring a domain name involves a few basic steps and one of them is unlocking the domain. The lock is a security option, which is being embraced by more and more domain registry organizations. It is a default feature supported by all gTLDs. If a domain name is locked, it will not be possible to initiate a transfer process, so nobody can even attempt to register your domain name. The lock can be removed only through the account where the domain is registered and all new domain names that support this feature are locked by default when they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Cloud Hosting

The Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with each and every cloud hosting package that we offer, will give you full control over your domain names. You’ll see all domains registered through our company conveniently displayed in alphabetical order in a separate Control Panel section. Those whose extensions support the registrar lock option will have a mini padlock icon on their right. By clicking the icon, you can see if the specific domain name is locked or unlocked and you can change the current status by clicking again – the procedure is as straightforward as that. You will not need to wait for the change to take effect or for our company to do anything, as the change of the status takes effect instantaneously, even if you see something different on WHOIS lookup websites. After all, it takes time for such websites to ‘refresh’ the information that they show.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you want to transfer a domain from our company to another domain registrar and you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account, you’ll be able to get the domain ready with just a few clicks. All your domain name registrations will be listed in a separate section of the Hepsia Control Panel – the same tool via which you’ll manage your hosting account. If a given generic or country-code TLD supports the registrar lock option, you will see a padlock-like icon. You can see whether the domain name is locked or not by clicking on that icon once and you can update the status by clicking for a second time. That’s all it takes and there will be nothing else that you or we will need to do, so you can proceed with the domain transfer process right away. The update will take effect immediately, so you will not need to wait for the status to be updated on WHOIS lookup sites.
